Head Coach of: Delta Valley Diving, Delta College, St. Mary's High School

Robert Wimberly

Delta Valley Diving is coached by Robert Wimberly.

Robert started the club in 2010 with the hope to bring diving opportunities to athletes in the San-Joaquin county. He has been involved with diving since he found the sport while attending Tokay High in 2001. He continued diving at San Joaquin Delta College, in Stockton, CA, where he coached himself to three Junior College All-American awards, and two top 5 finishes at the California Community College State Championships. He was rewarded with the opportunity to continue diving at the NCAA Division I level, for the Western Kentucky Hilltoppers and earned a partial scholarship for diving and academics.

Robert began coaching in 2005 while diving at Delta. He coached locally at St. Mary's High School, in Stockton, CA, for two seasons before heading to Kentucky to continue his diving career. Since returning, he has coached SJ Delta College, St. Mary's and Delta Valley Diving. He has been very successful during his coaching career, having been named back-to-back men's Coach of the Year for California Community Colleges.

He has sent over 20 divers to the California Community College State Championships, including a 3x state champion and multiple top 4 finishes. He has also coached multiple divers to USA Diving and AAU national championships, multiple High School All-Americans, Section Champions and State qualifiers. Additionally, he has helped divers continue the sport after Club and College, having divers receive scholarships across the US including University of Hawaii, BYU, University of Arizona, San Jose State University, Cal Baptist, Eastern Michigan University, University of Massachusetts, University of Denver, and more.

Robert is CPR and First-Aid certified by the American Red Cross. He has also been Safety Certified and Aerial Training Certified by USA Diving, and received the USA Diving Level 1 Coaching certification. Robert has attended (and continues to attend) numerous coaching clinics, where he has continued to increase his coaching abilities.

In addition to advancing his diving knowledge, Robert has earned his Master's in Kinesiology with a concentration in Coaching from Fresno Pacific University. He believes that success is not only a function of talent, but knowledge.

On top of his coaching duties, Robert is involved in the diving community as the CCCAA Diving Coach representative. He is also the co-creator and co-host of the Flip Flops at the Dive Bar podcast. Additionally, he teaches classes through SJ Delta College.

Robert strives to bring out the best in his divers. His goals are to not only help each diver reach their potential in the pool, but outside it as well.
