Delta Valley Diving is coached by Robert Wimberly. Robert started the club in 2010, with the team steadily growing each year. He has been involved with diving since he found the sport while attending Tokay High in 2001. He continued diving at San Joaquin Delta College, in Stockton, CA, where he coached himself to three Junior College All-American awards, and two top 5 finishes at the California Community College State Championships. He was rewarded with the opportunity to continue diving at the NCAA Division I level, for the Western Kentucky Hilltoppers and earned a partial scholarship for diving and academics.
Robert began coaching in 2005 while diving at Delta. He coached locally at St. Mary's High School, in Stockton, CA, for two seasons before heading to Kentucky to continue his diving career. Since returning, he has coached both the SJ Delta College, St. Mary's and Delta Valley Diving teams. He has been very successful during his coaching career, recently being named back-to-back men's Coach of the Year for California Community Colleges, and leading multiple JC divers to state competition (including back to back 3m state champion in 2018-2019), HS divers to state competition, and club divers to national competition. He has helped divers continue the sport after Club and College, having divers receive multiple scholarships across the US. He has sent over 15 divers to the California Community College State Championships, including a 3x state champion and multiple top four top 4 finishes. He has also coached multiple divers to USA Diving and AAU national championships, with last season sending 3 out of 20 divers to USA Diving Nationals and qualifying another 6 to AAU Nationals.
Robert is CPR and First-Aid certified by the American Red Cross. He has also been Safety Certified and Aerial Training Certified by USA Diving, and received the USA Diving Level 1 Coaching certification. Robert has attended (and continues to attend) numerous coaching clinics, where he has continued to hone his coaching abilities.
In addition to advancing his diving knowledge, Robert has recently earned his Master's in Kinesiology from Fresno Pacific University. He believes that success is not only a function of talent, but knowledge.
Robert strives to bring out the best in his divers. His goals are to not only help each diver reach their potential in the pool, but outside it as well.
